Description

Hello Richard, You can send us a picture of your AC to [email protected]. The website also has install videos that will explain what is in the kit and what they fit.
Great question Rodney, The Silencer kit will only work on units with a ducted system with a wall thermostat. So unfortunately the Silencer kit will not work for your application because it is non ducted unit.
The Silencer kit only works on ducted units with a wall thermostat. If the air only goes in and out of the A/C itself then you have a non duct unit.
Please send me a picture of the inside ceiling assembly to [email protected]. Verify that it is a ducted unit. Make sure the silencer will not interfere with slides, doors, and appliances as the silencer is 17x17x 2.25″

WOW! What a difference that makes. I took db readings before I started and it was at 76 db’s with the fan on high. When I finished it was at 67 db’s with the fan on high. That might sound like it’s still high but trust me it’s a lot quieter. I don’t have to have the radio or the television volume too loud to hear it. ( usually have to adjust the volume when the A/C goes on and off, Not now) Also having a conversation is much better than before. Only thing I would say is before you start, get an extra roll of foil tape. If it’s anything like mine, that small roll will come up short. It took me about 3-4 hours to complete. It was hard to get big forearms into the tight areas when taping the gaps. Especially reaching to the top of the unit where the coil is to tape those gaps. This is well worth the investment and it looks sleek and clean.

Do not give as a holiday gift, and make sure before ordering that you never want to use the cold air dump function on your ducted RV system. We gave this as a holiday gift to our son for his 32ft Jay Flight. Recently we attempted to install it, and quickly realized about the air dump issue. They sometimes use the cold air dump function to cool off the common area of a hot trailer or when cooking, etc.. At night they turn off the air dump to force more air to the sleeping areas when the doors are closed. We contacted the company. We were unable to return due to the 10-day return policy. The campground the RV resides is not open in winter, which is not uncommon. The company should acknowledge that when determining their return policy. They also need to update their installation manual and sell sheet to acknowledge that the Silencer is not appropriate for ducted systems if the cold air dump function is ever used.

My husband and I just finished installing the A/C Silencer. Prior to installation we had no air coming out of the six vents in our ceiling. After installation all six vents have air flowing out of them! Plus the unit itself is much quieter! Our old unit did not even have any sort of filter. What it did have looked like a screen like the type you find on window. We are from Canada so the unit was pricey because of dollar difference, but worth it as now we will be able to have conversations and hear each other and also hear the TV without turning up the volume and our AC will function much better. I recently installed the Dometic RV A/C Silencer DA100 in my 2022 Winnebago towable. The factory installation was very good and already had a nice foam-covered aluminum plate blocking the air dump. I added foil tape on the interior of the AC as suggested in the WackO installation video, in my case it was probably overkill.
Using a cell phone decibel app with the phone on the arm of the sofa under the AC unit, I noted a noise reduction of almost 4 dB, which was easily discernable to my ear even before using the db app.
The unit is well made, and the nice filter is a welcome addition. The value delivered is well worth the cost. (Not sponsored, I spent my own money on this product.)

I only have one recommendation and that’s to provide a piece of light aluminum to cover the dump hole in lieu of using all aluminum tape. I used a piece of light aluminum over the hole and taped all four sides to complete the seal.

I was absolutely AMAZED at the difference the RV A/C Silencer made. I did take a good bit of time preparing everything even created an air diverter that split the air coming directly down from the unit into each side where the ducts are located. This sealed off completely the airflow only allowing it to come out of the ceiling ducts. taped everything up good and even created a mounting bracket for the A/C control box (for touch screen control) that was just screwed in place horizontal blocking return airflow. Mounted it to the wall inside the unit enabling smooth airflow on the return duct. My airflow was dramatically increased from each duct and the simple design to move the return air from the far side back through the sound deadening material is a simple but brilliant approach. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to reduce the noise level in their coach. The upfront preparation is the most important part, so take your time and tape everything good. You will be satisfied with the results.

The silencer does an amazing job, it makes about as much noise as your regular residential air handler. My only gripe is that you lose the quick access to your filter that the dometic intake had. I currently have my RV parked on my property and my kids track in a lot of dirt which inevitably gets sucked into the vent. Now that i need to remove 4 screws to gain access to the filter, I’m worried about the screws stripping or the plastic housing cracking. Other than that, it works well and would definitely recommend it.

Very easy install (about 20 minutes). The AC noise definitely reduced. A benefit not mentioned much is the AC efficiency when the vent in the AC grill is disabled. I believe some of the cold air was just going out the air return when the vent was closed but with the silencer installed the vent is disabled and all the cold air goes through the AC vents. My AC unit runs less and for shorter periods.

Only thing I would say is to provide more of the tape and tell customers to tape up the inside around the vent inlets and around the divider between the intake and output. There is so much air loss around those areas. This device coupled with the RV Air Flow Systems my A/C is so quiet. I’m running 61db at the ceiling next to the unit and 54db directly below approximately 4 feet under.

I installed the a/c silencer on a new 2022 GE 15,000 btu with heat pump single ducted unit.
Installation was easy and everything fit perfectly, very good instructions included with the package, I had a roll of wider metal tape which I used to cover the larger cold air opening
Appearance is very nice, the cover looks like it belongs and no the word WackO is not displayed although it would be a fun conversation point. We have a 7′ celling so no problem with he thicker cover.
Performance was well worth the investment making this a high value addition.
I did not measure the db level as I believe objectionable noise frequency is as important as volume. Before installation the noise from our unit, with the high flow vent closed, was objectionable even on low fan. Running with the high flow vent open was just too noisy so we will not miss this feature. After installation the noise was much less objectionable in either low or high fan mode. Much easier to talk in a normal voice and have the tv volume at a normal level. To quantify I would say 40% improvement in objectionable noise based on listening by both my wife and myself.
The air flow through the vents seemed to improve a small amount by feel. I have no way to quantify the result so I will guess 10% based on feel.
The filter is a potential improvement over the bird catcher that comes with the typical a/c unit but I have no way to quantify the benefit. The filter can not be checked unless you remove the cover and I do not know how often it will have to be cleaned. So I will include this with my check often maintenance list until I have more experience.

Had one in my last camper, had to get one for the new one asap. Works as described, it made my GE AC quieter on high than it was before on low. Dropped 6 db, 62 down to 56 on high, and 5 db on low, 58 down to 53 according to the phone app, which makes a huge difference. Measured from same spot with all doors and windows closed and phone in exactly the same orientation, before numbers were with the quick dump closed, it was way louder with it open. Seems a little pricey at first, but it’s not something that is going wear out, so it will keep me sleeping like a baby years to come

The silencer does indeed reduce the air noise from the unit. The baffle idea works well and more air is directed to the ducts in our Ekko. The compressor noise is still there, of course, but it has a much lower frequency content. I only notice it it in bed, not in the rest of the coach. Install was relatively easy with only one or two detours. It’s a great product and good investment.

The product works great, but I don’t like that using it with a GE RV A/C requires drilling through metal. That seems like it could have been avoided with a very slight change to the design of the filter. Also, it delayed installation by over a week since I had to buy a drill and bits which I didn’t have (I’m a full-time RVer, I had an impact driver but it wasn’t strong enough for drilling metal) and didn’t know I was going to need.

First impression: for the part that you are getting this thing is pretty expensive, BUT, holy cow does it work. Just as a guess, the AC is probably 70% quieter now. Most importantly though, the majority of sound eliminated was higher frequency. The noise of the AC went from being an irritating whoosh to a dull hum. It’s much easier to hear the TV, talk on the phone, etc. For the performance, it’s definitely worth the price. AC is a Dometic Brisk Air II.

We just installed the Wacko RV A/C Silencer on our Dometic unit in our Surveyor Travel Trailer. Yes, it is worth the money! Not only is it quieter (even with the fan on high), but with the included foil tape, we sealed off the flimsy foam Dometic factory air baffles that was basically letting what should have been output air get sucked back through the intake…so now our airflow volume is even better throughout the camper and the grill provides a nice updated look at well!

I wasn’t sure at first, but after installing this product you can tell a very noticeable decrease in the sound of the Dometic unit. Not only significantly quieter, but also it seems more efficient. Installation was less than 30 minutes with much of the time just trying to get the backing off the foil tape. The loss of the “cold air dump” feature is not a big deal to me as we rarely used that feature so all in all, very happy with the purchase and well worth the investment.
Note: Have a 2020 Keystone Passport 3400QD and there is an issue in that height of the RV A/C Silencer coming from the ceiling is greater than the stock unit which makes the cabinet about the TV unable to fully open. If the unit was quarter of an inch shorter it would be fine, but unfortunately it just barley hits the corner. Not going to give a negative mark to the product because that’s not their fault, but just something to keep mindful of if you have a cabinet door that opens under the stock Dometic A/C unit.

I installed the silencer on our 2016 Salem 30KQBSS and there is a big difference in the main living area. Sitting at the dinette you can tell it is much quieter. Using a free app on my IPhone it showed 6-7 Db quieter than before the installation. I am very glad we installed the silencer we always complained how noisy the A/C was in the main living area. It also made a difference in the noise level in the master bedroom and the bunkroom.

Installed my DA100 RV AC Silencer yesterday evening in our 2021 Coachmen Leprechaun 319mb and O.M.G. what an immediate difference. The noise from the AC was cut in half and the cool air actually blow out of the ceiling ducts so well it made a hanging “Welcome” flag move in the air movement. The other problem the silencer corrected is with the AC unit in “AUTO”, the blower in our AC unit used to turn off while the compressor kept running, then a couple of seconds later, the blower would start back up again, only to stop a few seconds later, and so on, and so on. That stopped immediately. I was about to replace our current AC unit and add one to the bedroom, but now I am going hold off on that project.

I had higher hopes for this product based on reviews so I bought one. $200 later – here’s my actual owners review. I have a 2018 Grand Design Imagine, around 27’ with one slide and the AC right in the middle of the living area – and right in front of the TV. With a garden variety db app on my iPhone 7 and the iPhone on the couch -with the system off I recorded around 45-46db ambient noise inside the camper. With the original Dometic shroud and the blow-through vent OPEN I recorded about 70-71db. With the blow through CLOSED around 67-68db. Now with the Wacko installed – 62-63db. Quieter? Yes. $200 worth? No, not really. It does quiet the AC down but I don’t know if the juice is worth the squeeze as they say. $100? Sure. But you still have to turn the TV up and down between AC cycles and you still have to elevate your voice to talk someone 5′ away from you. On the plus side – it was easy to install, pretty nice quality parts and easy instructions,.

Prior to installing the cover I took a reading under the unit appx 2.5 ft away from the cover and my meter varied from 51-52db. After I installed it correctly the meter read 46-47db. This was a 5-6 db gain. He was very responsive to help me correct my mistake.

We bought the RV A/C Silencer a year ago and have been using our RV full-time ever since installation. What a difference! It is currently in the 90s every day in Texas and the A/C runs almost all day long. With the old cover, it was deafening in the living area of the RV. Does what it says it will do. Easy to install in a 31-ft Puma. I took before/after readings using the Apple Watch decibel meter. I measured in two places: directly below the unit at 48” from the floor, and at the edge of the dinette table approximately 50” laterally from the unit. Before, with the air dump closed on the stock unit, I measured 65dB under the unit and 58 at the table. After installation, I measured 57dB under the unit and 52 at the table. As others have noted here, 6-8dB is a substantial reduction in noise. Just to be sure the taping of the dump vent was not causing all or most of the sound reduction, I also measured the sound with the vent taped before I installed the cover. Readings were 65dB directly under the unit, and 59 at the table. This silencer works.

A real improvement. When the package arrived, I thought I’d probably wasted my money. I had no way to test it because we don’t have a 30 amp outlet at our house. All I had to go on was reviews from other customers. This weekend we finally went camping and both my wife and I were very pleasantly surprised at how much quieter it makes the A/C. To be sure, the A/C is still loud, but we can actually watch TV now. Before this silencer, we literally could not turn up our TV loud enough to hear it over the A/C. 2018 Keystone Cougar. This product is truly worth the price, at least in our book. The A/C noise went from outrageous to tolerable.

I read about this kit in Trailer Life magazine. I have a Carbon toy hauler by Keystone. The 2 A/C vents in the garage barely put out any air. We use the garage as living space once unloaded. This was not comfortable. The unit in the main living area was loud enough that you had to turning up the tv or radio to hear it, then down when the air shut off. I purchased this kit and installed it myself. Very simple install. Easy to follow instructions, and man what a difference! We have A/C in the garage, we can watch tv normally, AND, the vents in the bedroom also have more air, so probably won’t need to run that unit at night. Great product and what a difference. Decibel levels prior to installation were 71db on high fan, 66db on low. After installation high fan dropped to 56db and low to 54db. The compressor was not running. I assume it will be a little louder with the compressor running. I’ll get that when it warms up. This was on a 2020 Cougar with a Dometic unit.

Very easy to install in my 2010 Concord Class C especially with the how to install video. Prior to installation, my decibel reading was between 70 and 71. After installation my decibel reading was 60 which is the normal reading during conversations. I won’t know about the effectiveness of the cooling aspect until this summer-2020.

I’ve now purchased three of these for two different RV. I absolutely love them. It’s hard to believe how much quitter the AC is, at least half if not quieter. You do loose the large air dump but this has not been an issue for us. Also, I made a point of purchasing a roll of Aluminum duct tape and re-taped the inside of our AC ducts especially between the intake and exhaust sides. I also zip tied and managed all the cabling to reduce turbulence. Darrell, the owner is a great guy. I had an issue with my install where I spun one of the cover screws. No questions asked, Darrell replaced the unit.

I saw this product in Trailer Life magazine and immediately ordered a unit for my Domestic A/C. Standing directly under the original dump cover I got a reading of 72db. Works just as advertised. Be careful to purchase the correct kit for the correct AC unit. We have a Coleman Trailer WITH a Dometic AC…. Sent the erroneous kit back for a refund. Second was perfect. Installed wigth a power driver in about 15 minutes, with most of the time being used to tape shut the large vent and other smaller openings. all the pieces fit as they were supposed to, and the sound difference is AMAZ

I originally installed this product incorrectly. Awesome! I do not have a DB meter, but when I installed this silencer on my Dometic unit, it cut the noise level to less than half its previous level. It has more air circulation now also. Have had the silencer for about a month now and it does quite the unit. In my opinion, I think we have gotten about a 30% – 40% reduction in noise. At least we can have a conversation or watch TV with the unit running. We have a second a/c unit in the bedroom and have not installed a silencer there as it is a good reminder of how loud the main salon’s unit was. Dometic a/c is the loudest I have ever heard. I think it is well worth the money and easy to install.

I bought one of these at the Forest River Owners Group (FROG) Rally last year. I bought the last one after someone had second thoughts. I immediately could hear a significant drop in the noise level after I installed the new cover. By no means do I claim that it makes the AC totally quiet, you can usually hear it when a home AC is running too. However, the noise level is noticeably lower. My motor home AC unit is a heat pump so I have enjoyed the quiet in both summer and winter operations. I personally recommend this product, you won’t regret it.
